Tonight, the Dallas Mavericks (0-4) played host to the Atlanta Hawks (4-0) in a losing effort in Game 4 of the preseason, falling 94-81, despite strong performances from John Jenkins and Justin Anderson. It was the Second Annual Breast Health Awareness Night at the American Airlines Center and the much anticipated preseason debut of Dirk Nowitzki.

One of the biggest bright spots for the Mavs this preseason, John Jenkins, continued make a strong case to ensure that not only will he be on the roster when the Mavs begin the regular season against the Suns in Phoenix on October 27, but that he’ll be a strong part of the rotation. He was on fire once again for the Mavs finishing with 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field. The three-year pro is now averaging 19.3 points during the preseason for his new team and appears to have carved out a comfortable role for himself at the shooting guard position, filling in for the injured Wes Matthews.

“I feel really good. I think coach letting me play my game just means everything to me so I can just play free out there.” – John Jenkins

But, perhaps the best thing to come out of the tonight’s game was the breakout of Justin Anderson. After struggling through his first three games for the Mavs, the rookie guard seems to regain some of the confidence he built during the 2015 Summer League. He finished the night with 12 points on 5 of 16 from the field. Dirk Nowitzki chipped in 6 points in his first action of the preseason.

Wesley Matthews (left Achilles), Chandler Parsons (right knee surgery), Deron Williams (left calf strain), JaVale McGee (stress fracture), Dwight Powell (left elbow sprain) and Raymond Felton (left hamstring strain) all sat out with injuries.
Mavs will now head to Cleveland to take on
Kevin Love and the Cavaliers on Monday night. The game will be televised at 6:00 PM CT on NBATV.
